There was a small surprise when eighth ranked Cortegada (4-6) won against 8th ranked Lima-Horta (4-6) in Vilagarcia Arousa 65-54 on Saturday. Cortegada outrebounded Lima-Horta 40-23 including a 32-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Lima-Horta was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Guard Sara Gomez (172-86, agency: ProDep Management) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. Brazilian-Italian Izabella Sangalli (184-95) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Guard Eliana Soriano (176-89) answered with 15 points and center Cristina Soriano (196-93, college: Monroe Coll.) added 9 points in the effort for Lima-Horta. Cortegada maintains eighth place in Group A with 4-6 record, which they share with defeated Lima-Horta. Lima-Horta lost their third game in a row. Cortegada will face higher ranked Mataro Parc (#6) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
