There was a surprise result when eighth ranked Gijon Basket (6-4) rolled over at home much higher ranked Culleredo (7-3) 82-63 on Saturday. Gijon Basket dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Culleredo's 28. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Gijon Basket made 8 blocks. It was a very good performance for Canadian forward Ryan Ejim (201-93, college: Carleton) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 14 points, 18 rebounds and 5 blocks. Canadian-Nigerian Kenny Ejim (198-94, college: Humber) contributed with 22 points and 6 steals for the winners. Five Gijon Basket players scored in double figures. American forward Trevin Woods (198, college: Arkansas Tech) answered with 23 points and 6 rebounds and center Mario Cabanas (207-85) added 10 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Culleredo. Gijon Basket moved-up to fifth place in Group A-B, which they share with PBB and Ponferrada CDP. Loser Culleredo dropped to the third position with three games lost. Gijon Basket will face Estudiantes L. (#8) in Lugo in the next round. Culleredo will play at home against the league's second-placed Leon (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
