Regular Season Round 9: KTP - Sykki 81-80

A very close game took place in Kotka between KTP and Sykki. Sixth ranked KTP (5-4) got a very close home victory over 9th ranked Sykki (2-8). KTP managed to escape with a 1-point win 81-80 on Saturday evening. The hosts trailed by 13 points at the halftime before their 48-34 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. KTP shot 22 for 33 from the free-throw line, while Sykki only scored two points from the stripe. They also forced 22 Sykki turnovers and had a 21-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Guard Janne-Petteri Lehtoranta (190-0) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals for the winners and swingman Eero Hannikainen (190-1) chipped in 14 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was forward Mikko Savolainen (196-2) with 23 points and 5 assists and guard Kalle Koponen (191-2) scored 19 points. Four Sykki players scored in double figures. KTP moved-up to fourth place, which they share with HNMKY and Pyrinto. Sykki lost their sixth game in a row. They keep the ninth position with eight games lost. KTP will meet bottom-ranked Lahti (#10) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Sykki's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Helsinki HNMKY.
