Regular Season Round 21: Qingdao E. - Shandong GS 121-92

An interesting game took place in Qingdao, where higher ranked Golden Stars (10-10) were outleveled in a road game by sixteenth ranked Eagles (5-15) 121-92 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Golden Stars. Eagles dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Golden Stars' 30. They outrebounded Golden Stars 51-35 including 19 on the offensive glass. Eagles looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Golden Stars were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American power forward Dakari Johnson (213-95, college: Kentucky) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points, 23 rebounds and 6 assists. His fellow American import point guard Jonathan Gibson (188-87, college: N.Mexico St.) chipped in 36 points (!!!) and 4 assists (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). At the other side the best for losing team was international guard Ruheng Wang (191-90) who recorded 25 points and 5 assists and the former international point guard Qungpeng Zhang (187-81) added 17 points and 7 assists respectively. Five Eagles and four Golden Stars players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Eagles maintains sixteenth place with 5-15 record, which they share with Beijing Dragons. Loser Golden Stars keep the tenth position with ten games lost. Eagles will face league's second-placed Flying Leopards in Yingkou in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
