Regular Season Round 21: Capitanes - Mineros 68-98

Date: December 16, 2018
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Capitanes (13-6) in Mexico on Sunday night. Hosts were rolled over by Mineros (16-4) 98-68. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Capitanes. They outrebounded Capitanes 42-31 including 30 on the defensive glass. Mineros shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 51.9 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Capitanes' players. Dominican-Puerto Rican swingman Jonathan Rodriguez (196-87, college: Campbell) stepped up and scored 22 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and American guard Jordan Williams (198-92, college: N.Texas) chipped in 15 points and 6 rebounds. Mineros' coach Manuel Cintron felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Panamanian forward Ernesto Oglivie (203-89) with 9 points and 12 rebounds and the former international guard Gabriel Giron (192-88) scored 13 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Mineros maintains first place with 16-4 record which they share with defeated Capitanes. Capitanes at the other side still keep top position with six games lost. Mineros are looking forward to face Angeles (#7) in Puebla in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Capitanes will play on the road against the league's second-placed Fuerza Regia (#2) in Monterrey and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
