Bottom-ranked Iraklis (0-7) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 74-65 loss to eleventh ranked Athinaikos (2-5) in Thessaloniki. Athinaikos outrebounded Iraklis 38-27 including 25 on the defensive glass. It was a great shooting night for Athinaikos especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 53.3 percentage. It was an exceptional evening for American power forward Stephanie Kostowicz (188-95, college: Wisc.-Milwaukee, agency: Interperformances) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds. Forward Zoi Niksina (185-96) accounted for 16 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side. American guard Zykira Lewis (173-94, college: Cent.Florida, agency: Two Points) came up with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import center Jacqueline Blake (189-95, college: Houston) added 18 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Iraklis in the defeat. Athinaikos moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Sporting. Iraklis lost their seventh game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with seven games lost. Athinaikos' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Athens Dafni Agioy.
