Regular Season Round 22: Jiangsu - Guangdong 89-78

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Vermilion Birds (21-1) in Nanjing on Monday night. Visitors were defeated by third ranked Jiangsu Phoenix (19-3) 89-78. It ended at the same time the 17-game winning streak of Vermilion Birds. Jiangsu Phoenix made 16-of-16 free shots (100 percent !!!) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Vermilion Birds' players. Worth to mention a great performance of Canadian Natalie Achonwa (190-92, college: Notre Dame) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 42 points (!!!) and 15 rebounds (made all of her twelve free throws !!!). International guard Xiaojia Chen (177-88) contributed with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 assists for the winners. American forward Aerial Powers (183-94, college: Michigan St.) replied with 20 points and 9 rebounds and international center Yueru Li (192-99) added 20 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Vermilion Birds. Four Vermilion Birds players scored in double figures. Jiangsu Phoenix have an impressive ten-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 19-3 record having just two points less than leader Guangdong. Vermilion Birds at the other side still keep top place with one game lost. They share the position with Bayi. Jiangsu Phoenix are looking forward to face league's second-placed Bayi Kylin in Nanchang in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Vermilion Birds will play at home against Red Wolves and are hoping to win this game.
