Important game to mention about took place in Doha. Al Arabi (1-0) saved a 3-point derby victory on the road edging Al Ahli (0-2) 97-94 on Saturday evening. Strangely Al Ahli outrebounded Al Arabi 52-35 including a 20-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. Al Ahli was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Senegalese center Oumar Seck (208-88) notched a double-double by scoring 22 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and the former international swingman Khalid Abdi (198-87) supported him with 18 points and 8 assists. Even a double-double of 21 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists by American power forward Kenny Hall (206-90, college: Tennessee) did not help to save the game for Al Ahli. His fellow American import Julius Coles (193-89, college: Canisius) added 22 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Al Arabi will play against Al Khor (#7) at home in the next round. Al Ahli will play against Al Khor and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
