Regular Season Round 11: Battipaglia - Ragusa 63-79
Date: December 22, 2018
There was no surprise when 10th ranked Battipaglia (2-9) was defeated at home by third ranked Ragusa (8-3) 79-63. Ragusa outrebounded Battipaglia 39-27 including 29 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. It was an exceptional evening for New Zealand Jillian Harmon (185-87, college: Stanford, agency: LBM Management) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 11 rebounds (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field). American forward Dearica Hamby (190-93, college: Wake Forest, agency: LBM Management) accounted for 17 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side. Four Ragusa players scored in double figures. British Chantelle Handy (188-87, college: Marshall, agency: Two Points) came up with 21 points and American forward Kristen Simon (188-95, college: USC) added 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for Battipaglia in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Ragusa. They maintain third place with 8-3 record having just three points less than leader Venezia. Battipaglia at the other side keeps the tenth position with nine games lost. Ragusa's next round opponent will be Sesto SG (#9) in Sesto San Giovanni which should be theoretically an easy game. Battipaglia will play at home against the league's second-placed Familia Schio and hope to win that game.
