Regular Season Round 12: Almeria - UCAM Jairis 72-42

Very expected game when 13th ranked UCAM Jairis (2-10) was crushed on the road by third ranked Almeria (9-3) 72-42 on Saturday. Almeria dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to UCAM Jairis' 28. They outrebounded UCAM Jairis 48-35 including 34 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of Argentinian power forward Ornella Santana (183-90) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 12 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and power forward Alicia Gonzalez (187-86) who added 9 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Almeria's coach Francisco Rueda felt very confident using 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was Ana Faussurier (190-94, college: Arkansas) with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds and forward Julia Melina (179-90) scored 2 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Almeria maintains third position in Group B with 9-3 record having just three points less than leader RC Celta, which they share with Leganes. Newly promoted UCAM Jairis keeps the thirteenth place with ten games lost. Almeria will face league's second-placed Adelantados in San Cristobal in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. UCAM Jairis will play at home against the league's leader Campus Promete (#1) and hope to win that game.
