Everything could happen in Chengdu at the game between two tied teams. Both tenth ranked Swordfish and 9th ranked Blue Whales had identical 11-12 record. But Blue Whales were not able to use a home court advantage and were defeated by the opponent from Shanghai 89-78 on Saturday night. Swordfish dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Blue Whales' 38. The best player for the winners was guard Yingyun Li (173) who scored 27 points and 5 rebounds. Montenegrin center Jelena Dubljevic (191-87, agency: BeoBasket) chipped in 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Swordfish's coach Marina Maljkovic used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Belarusian center Yelena Leuchanka (196-83, college: W.Virginia) who recorded a double-double by scoring 24 points and 17 rebounds and forward Xuetong Zhao (185-94) added 23 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Swordfish (12-12) moved-up to ninth place. Loser Blue Whales dropped to the tenth position with 13 games lost. Swordfish will face higher ranked Flame (#6) in Taiyuan in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Blue Whales will play at home against Jiangsu Phoenix (#3) and hope to win that game.
