Canberra Capitals smashed Townsville Fire 81-55. Canberra Capitals dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Townsville Fire's 26. They outrebounded Townsville Fire 45-34 including 31 on the defensive glass. Canberra Capitals players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. It was a great evening for international forward Kelsey Griffin (188-87, college: Nebraska) who led her team to a victory scoring 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international center Marianna Tolo (196-89, agency: ProDep Management) helped adding 14 points and 11 rebounds. Four Canberra Capitals players scored in double figures. The former international forward Tess Madgen (180-90) responded with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds and forward Zitina Aokuso (192-98) scored 7 points and 9 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Canberra Capitals have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain second place with 10-5 record behind leader Melbourne, which they share with Perth. Townsville Fire lost third consecutive game. Defending champion keeps the seventh position with nine games lost. Canberra Capitals will play against Dandenong Rangers (#5) on the road in the next round. Townsville Fire will play against Sydney Uni Flames and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
