There was no surprise in Weinan where 16th ranked Red Wolves (5-21) were outplayed by tenth ranked Blue Whales (13-13) 95-73. Blue Whales dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Red Wolves' 28. They outrebounded Red Wolves 45-24 including a 34-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Blue Whales players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. Belarusian center Yelena Leuchanka (196-83, college: W.Virginia) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists. Forward Yang Jia (191-87) contributed with 12 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Four Blue Whales players scored in double figures. Center Xueru Ma (168) replied with 35 points (!!!) and American forward Theresa Plaisance (196-92, college: LSU, agency: ProDep Management) added 18 points and 15 rebounds in the effort for Red Wolves. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Blue Whales moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Shanghai. Red Wolves at the other side keep the sixteenth position with 21 games lost. Blue Whales' next round opponent will be higher ranked Magic Deer (#5) in Urumqi and it may be quite challenging game. Red Wolves will play on the road against Flame (#7) in Taiyuan and hope to win that game.
