The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Canberra Capitals as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Canberra Capitals smashed 7th ranked Townsville Fire at home 104-75. Canberra Capitals forced 23 Townsville Fire turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 33 assists comparing to just 18 passes made by Townsville Fire's players. Worth to mention a great performance of Canadian guard Kia Nurse (183-96, college: Connecticut) who helped to win the game recording 33 points (!!!) and international forward Kelsey Griffin (188-87, college: Nebraska) who added 12 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals during the contest. Four Canberra Capitals players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American Laurin Mincy (183-92, college: Maryland) with 20 points and forward Darcee Garbin (187-94) scored 13 points and 8 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Canberra Capitals (12-5) have an impressive five-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Melbourne. Townsville Fire lost fourth consecutive game. Defending champion dropped to the fifth place with ten games lost. They share the position with Bendigo and Dandenong. Townsville Fire will play next round against Dandenong Rangers trying to get back on the winning streak. Canberra Capitals will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked Bendigo Spirit at home.
