Regular Season Round 11: Promitheas - Panathinaikos 69-86
Date: December 30, 2018
A1 top team - Panathinaikos (10-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they beat fifth ranked Promitheas (7-4) in Patras 86-69. It looked good early as Promitheas took a 5-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Panathinaikos had a 19-13 second period charge getting the lead and Promitheas was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 69-86. They outrebounded Promitheas 39-24 including a 30-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Panathinaikos especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. It was a great evening for the former international guard Nikos Pappas (194-90) who led his team to a victory scoring 18 points. International point guard Nick Calathes (198-89, college: Florida) helped adding 12 points and 8 assists. American Rion Brown (198-91, college: Miami, FL) responded with 23 points and the other American import forward Tony Meier (204-90, college: Wisc.-Milwaukee) scored 12 points. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Panathinaikos have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 10-0 record. Promitheas lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with four games lost. Panathinaikos will play against Holargos (#6) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game.
