Regular Season Round 29: Hokkaido L. - Toyota Alvark 78-76

A very close game took place in Saporro between Hokkaido L. and Toyota Alvark. Sixth ranked Hokkaido L. (8-21) got a very close home victory over 3rd placed Toyota Alvark (19-10). Hokkaido L. managed to escape with a 2-point win 78-76 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Toyota Alvark. Hokkaido L. dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Toyota Alvark's 28. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Spanish center David Doblas (206-81) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and British-American center Byron Mullens (213-89, college: Ohio St.) chipped in 14 points and 11 rebounds. Hokkaido L.'s coach Jose Neto used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American center Alex Kirk (211-91, college: N.Mexico, agency: Pensack Sports) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and swingman Zack Baranski (193-92) scored 8 points and 8 rebounds. Hokkaido L. moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Fukuoka Rizing. Defending champion Toyota Alvark still keeps top position with ten games lost. They share it with Niigata Albirex. Hokkaido L. will meet higher ranked Aishin Sea Horses (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Toyota Alvark will play against the league's leader Tochigi Brex and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
