Regular Season Round 8: Homentmen - Beirut Club 100-68
Date: December 30, 2018
Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Beirut: Homentmen (#2) and Beirut Club (#4). Homentmen (6-1) smashed visiting Beirut Club (4-4) by 32 points 100-68. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Beirut Club. Homentmen shot the lights out from three sinking 17 long-distance shots on high 63.0 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Beirut Club's players. The winners were led by U.S. Virgin Islands-Puerto Rican point guard Walter Hodge (183-86, college: Florida) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 assists and American power forward Chris Johnson (210-85, college: LSU) supported him with 17 points and 11 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Five Homentmen players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds by the former international forward Ali Haidar (201-90, college: Michigan Tech) did not help to save the game for Beirut Club. American guard Chris Crawford (193-92, college: Memphis) added 21 points for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Al Riyadi. Beirut Club at the other side keeps the fourth place with four games lost. Homentmen's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Beirut to the arena Al Riyadi.
