Regular Season Round 11: Bahrain - Sitra 77-86

There was a small surprise when tenth ranked Sitra (4-6) beat 8th ranked Al-Bahrain (3-6) in Manama 86-77 on Sunday. Strangely Al-Bahrain outrebounded Sitra 42-29 including 16 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was an exceptional evening for the former international guard Hussain Taqi (173-78) who led the winners and scored 22 points and 7 assists. Iraqi Ali Abdulla accounted for 11 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side. American forward Lester Ferguson (208-88, college: Robert Morris) came up with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 14 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) and Fadhel Abbas added 16 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Al-Bahrain in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Sitra moved-up to eighth place. Loser Al-Bahrain dropped to the ninth position with six games lost. Sitra will meet at home higher ranked Al-Ahli (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Al-Bahrain will play against the league's second-placed Al-Muharraq (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
