Very important is a road loss of third ranked Al-Ahli (7-2) against fourth ranked Al-Riffa (8-2) on Monday night. Visiting Al-Ahli was defeated by Al-Riffa in Riffa 89-77. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Al-Ahli. They outrebounded Al-Ahli 49-35 including a 36-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. Al-Riffa players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. It was a great evening for the former international guard Mohamed Kawaid (-89) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists. The former international forward Yunes Kawaid (-88) helped adding 28 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Al-Riffa players scored in double figures. American-New Zealand forward Marcel Jones (203-85, college: Oregon St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 19 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international forward Hesham Sarhan (-92) scored 26 points and 5 assists. Al-Ahli's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Al-Riffa. They moved-up to third place. Al-Ahli at the other side dropped to the fourth position with two games lost. Al-Riffa will play against Al-Ittihad (#5) in Manama in the next round. Al-Ahli will play on the road against Sitra and hopes to get back on the winning track.
