Tenth-ranked Blue Whales (13-15) made lots of trouble for first ranked Vermilion Birds (26-2) in Chengdu on Wednesday. The visitors from Dongguan managed to secure only one-point victory 56-55. However their fans expected much easier game. Vermilion Birds made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Vermilion Birds outrebounded Blue Whales 48-24 including a 19-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. International Sijing Huang (192-96) fired a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. The former international point guard LiWei Yang (175-95) chipped in 15 points, 5 assists and 5 steals. Belarusian center Yelena Leuchanka (196-83, college: W.Virginia) produced a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and forward Xuetong Zhao (185-94) added 14 points respectively for lost side. Vermilion Birds maintains first position with 26-2 record. Blue Whales at the other side keep the tenth place with 15 games lost. Vermilion Birds are looking forward to face Flame (#8) in Taiyuan in the next round and are hoping to win another game.
