Regular Season Round 26: Santos - Capitanes 108-110

Date: January 3, 2019
Sixth-ranked Santos (9-16) used its home court advantage to challenge first ranked Capitanes (16-8) in San Luis Potosi on Thursday. The visitors from Mexico managed to secure only two-point victory 110-108. However their fans expected much easier game. Capitanes looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. 27 personal fouls committed by Santos helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Cuban center Ismael Romero (203-91) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists (on 13-of-15 shooting from the field). The former international guard Gabriel Giron (192-88) contributed with 22 points for the winners. American forward Lyonell Gaines (198-93, college: Morehead St., agency: Best of You Sports) replied with a double-double by scoring 31 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists and his fellow American import forward BJ West (211-89, college: Jackson St.) added 17 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Santos. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Capitanes have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 16-8 record. Santos lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with 16 games lost. Capitanes will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Santos will play again at home against the league's leader Capitanes (#1) and are hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
