We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Sichuan where 17th ranked Blue Whales (7-21) were defeated by eighteenth ranked Gold Lions (8-21) 120-110. Gold Lions players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists. It was a good game for American-Montenegrin point guard Taylor Rochestie (185-85, college: Washington St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 5 rebounds and 18 assists. Guard DeShuai Shi (192-92) contributed with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. Gold Lions' coach Toni Vujanic allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American Jamaal Franklin (196-91, college: San Diego St., agency: Slash Sports) replied with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and his fellow American import power forward Jason Thompson (211-86, college: Rider) added 21 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Blue Whales. Four Gold Lions and five Blue Whales players scored in double figures. Gold Lions have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to seventeenth place. Blue Whales lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the eighteenth position with 21 games lost. Gold Lions' next round opponent will be higher ranked Eagles (#15) in Qingdao and it may be quite challenging game. Blue Whales will play on the road against Golden Stars in Jinan and hope to win that game.
