Regular Season Round 15: AZS UMK Torun - SMS PZKosz 84-77

Not a big story in a game when 11th ranked SMS PZKosz (3-10) lost on the road to seventh ranked AZS UMK Torun (7-7) 84-77 on Saturday. AZS UMK Torun forced 22 SMS PZKosz turnovers and outrebounded them 47-33 including 18 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. SMS PZKosz was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for power forward Ignacy Grochowski (201-98) who led his team to a victory with 21 points and 9 rebounds. Radoslaw Plebanek (190-85) contributed with 16 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Forward Patryk Stankowski (192-0) answered with 22 points and 5 assists and center Szymon Zapala (211-1) added 7 points and 14 rebounds in the effort for SMS PZKosz. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for AZS UMK Torun. They moved-up to fifth place in Group A, which they share with Arka II. Loser SMS PZKosz keeps the eleventh position with ten games lost. AZS UMK Torun will face Gniezno (#9) on the road in the next round. SMS PZKosz will play against Ogniwo Szczecin and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
