Regular Season Round 16: Zwolle - Leiden 71-81

Date: January 6, 2019
The game between Top Four teams took place in Zwolle. Top-ranked host Zwolle (15-2) lost to second ranked Leiden (14-1) 81-71. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Leiden. Zwolle was better in third quarter 25-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The winners were led by American point guard Maurice Watson (178-93, college: Creighton) who scored that evening 20 points and 5 assists and the other American import center Clayton Vette (202-88, college: Winona St., agency: Court Side) supported him with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Four Leiden players scored in double figures. Even 23 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals by Canadian point guard Kaza Kajami-Keane (185-94, college: Carleton, agency: Interperformances) did not help to save the game for Zwolle. The former international forward Olaf Schaftenaar (208-93, college: Oregon St.) added 17 points and 9 rebounds for lost side. Leiden have an impressive 12-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 14-1 record behind leader Zwolle. Zwolle at the other side still keeps top place with two games lost. Leiden will play against Dutch Windmills (#5) in Dordrecht in the next round. Zwolle will have a break next round.
