Regular Season Round 30: Yamagata - Aomori Watts 77-52

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 6th ranked Aomori Watts' (7-23) road loss to fifth ranked Yamagata (13-17) 52-77 on Sunday. Yamagata dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Aomori Watts' 24. They outrebounded Aomori Watts 48-30 including a 35-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Yamagata looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Aomori Watts' players. The best player for the winners was American-Irish swingman Will Hanley (201-90, college: Bowdoin, agency: Duran International) who had a double-double by scoring 24 points, 19 rebounds and 6 assists. Nigerian forward Chukwudiebere Maduabum (206-91) chipped in a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds. Yamagata's coach Ryutaro Onodera felt very confident that he used entire bench saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Cullen Russo (206-94, college: Fresno St.) who recorded 18 points and 9 rebounds and point guard Taichi Sano (177-93) added 14 points respectively. Yamagata moved-up to third place, which they share with Fukushima and Nishinomiya S. Loser Aomori Watts keep the sixth position with 23 games lost. Yamagata will face Fukushima (#4) at home in the next round. Aomori Watts will play against the league's second-placed Cyberdyne IR and hope to win that game.
