Regular Season Round 12: Breakers - Wildcats 97-84

Round 12 in NBL means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Auckland where host New Zealand Breakers (8-9) beat league's leader Perth Wildcats (12-7) 97-84 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Perth Wildcats. New Zealand Breakers dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Perth Wildcats' 34. The best player for the winners was American forward Shawn Long (208-93, college: La-Lafayette, agency: Pensack Sports) who scored 33 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds. American-Guamanian forward Tai Wesley (201-86, college: Utah St.) chipped in 20 points and 9 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Bryce Cotton (185-92, college: Providence, agency: Pensack Sports) who recorded 27 points and his fellow American import guard Terrico White (196-90, college: Mississippi) added 16 points and 4 assists respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. New Zealand Breakers moved-up to sixth place. Perth Wildcats at the other side dropped to the second position with seven games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Kings. Perth Wildcats will play next round against Cairns Taipans trying to make it back to the top of the standings. New Zealand Breakers will try to continue on its current victory against first ranked Kings in Sydney.
