Regular Season Round 31: Toyama Grouses - Hitachi SR 94-87

An interesting game for Toyama Grouses (18-13) which hosted in Toyama 4th placed Hitachi Sunrockers (13-18). Third ranked Toyama Grouses managed to get a 7-point victory 94-87. Toyama Grouses made 26-of-34 free shots (76.5 percent) during the game. Hitachi Sunrockers were plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for American center Joshua Smith (208-92, college: Georgetown) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 29 points and 14 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). His fellow American import forward Leo Lyons (206-87, college: Missouri) contributed with 20 points and 5 assists for the winners. American Ryan Kelly (211-91, college: Duke) answered with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds and international point guard Leo Vendrame (183-93) added 16 points and 7 assists in the effort for Hitachi Sunrockers. Four Hitachi Sunrockers players scored in double figures. Toyama Grouses maintains third place with 18-13 record having eight points less than leader Ryukyu GK. Hitachi Sunrockers lost their third game in a row. They keep the fourth position with 18 games lost. Toyama Grouses will face league's second-placed Toshiba Thunders in Kanagawa in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Hitachi Sunrockers will play at home against Hokkaido L. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
