There was a minor upset in Torreon where 5th ranked Laguneros (11-14) were defeated by fifth ranked Abejas (12-15) 83-75. The winners were led by American power forward Yancy Gates (206-89, college: Cincinnati) who scored that evening 19 points and 7 rebounds and the other American import forward Onzie Branch (198-91, college: Gardner-Webb) supported him with 17 points and 5 assists. Five Abejas players scored in double figures. Even 23 points and 8 rebounds by American forward Mychal Ammons (198-92, college: S.Alabama) did not help to save the game for Laguneros. Jamaican-American guard Akeem Scott (185-83, college: High Point) added 14 points, 6 rebounds and 11 assists for lost side. Abejas maintains fifth position with 12-15 record which they share with defeated Laguneros. Newly promoted Laguneros keep the fifth place with 14 games lost. Abejas will have a break next round. Laguneros will play again at home against Abejas (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
