Regular Season Round 7: Al Wakrah - Al Gharafa 65-71

There was a minor upset when 4th placed Al Wakrah (4-3) was defeated at home by sixth ranked Al Gharafa (3-4) 71-65 on Wednesday. Al Gharafa outrebounded Al Wakrah 49-34 including 19 on the offensive glass. It was a great evening for American forward Nick Stover (198-93, college: S.Alabama) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 22 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Franklin Session (187-89, college: CS Los Angeles) helped adding 9 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists. Stover is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the losing side American point guard DaQuan Brooks (177-90, college: W.Connecticut) responded with 21 points and 8 assists and the former international center Mame Souleye (206-87) scored 17 points and 9 rebounds. Al Gharafa maintains sixth place with 3-4 record. Loser Al Wakrah keeps the fourth position with three games lost. They share it with Al Arabi. Al Gharafa's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Doha Al Ahli.
