The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Pinheiros as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Pinheiros defeated 8th ranked Minas in Sao Paulo 87-75. 28 personal fouls committed by Minas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of power forward Renato Carbonari (206-87) who helped to win the game recording 15 points and 9 rebounds. The former international forward Marcus-Vinicius Toledo (201-86) contributed with 17 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winners. Five Pinheiros players scored in double figures. The former international guard Leandro Barbosa (190-82) replied with 22 points and 6 assists and American swingman Dominique Coleman (198-88, college: Francis Marion) added 15 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Minas. Minas' coach Espiga Soares rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Pinheiros (12-3) have an impressive five-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Minas at the other side dropped to the ninth place with nine games lost. They share the position with Sao Jose. Minas will play next round against Joinville trying to get back on the winning streak. Pinheiros will try to continue on its current victory against eighth ranked Corinthians. It will be extra interesting game as Corinthians is their local rival from Sao Paulo.
