A2 top team - Iraklis (10-3) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed eighth ranked Diagoras D. (7-6) in Thessaloniki 70-49. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Diagoras D.. Iraklis dominated down low during the game scoring 40 of its points in the paint compared to Diagoras D.'s 14. They outrebounded Diagoras D. 40-25 including a 33-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Kostas Kakaroudis (204-83) stepped up and scored 16 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and Lithuanian Ronaldas Rutkauskas (203-92) chipped in 13 points and 11 rebounds. Iraklis' coach Lefteris Hatzikiriakidis felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side center Kostas Macheras (205-84) responded with 10 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Thomas Nikou (185-80) scored 7 points and 6 assists. Iraklis maintains first place with 10-3 record, which they share with Ionikos Nikaias. Newly promoted Diagoras D. dropped to the seventh position with six games lost. They share it with Karditsas. Iraklis will play against Amyntas Dafnis (#4) in Athens in the next round. Diagoras D. will play at home against Ippokratis and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
