Regular Season Round 14: Korikouvot - FoKoPo 81-97

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 9th ranked Korikouvot (5-9) lost to tenth ranked Forssan Koripojat (3-10) in Kouvola 81-97 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Forssan Koripojat. Korikouvot was better in third quarter 25-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Forssan Koripojat dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Korikouvot's 32. Forssan Koripojat had a 37-23 advantage in offensive rebounds. Forssan Koripojat looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American center Gilbert Talbot (208-94, college: LSU-Alexandria) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 21 rebounds and 7 assists. The other American import guard Isaac Williams (195-94, college: Miss.Valley St.) contributed with 39 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds for the winners. Williams is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Swingman Vili Nyman (198-98) replied with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international point guard Tuomas Hirvonen (181-96) added 20 points, 7 rebounds and 11 assists in the effort for Korikouvot. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Forssan Koripojat maintains tenth position in Division with 3-10 record. Loser Korikouvot keeps the ninth place with nine games lost. Forssan Koripojat will face league's second-placed Kristika Turku in Turun in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
