Ninth-ranked Zaragoza (8-8) made lots of trouble for second ranked Real Madrid (12-4) on Sunday. Real Madrid managed to secure only two-point victory 98-96. However their fans expected much easier game. Real Madrid made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Mexican center Gustavo Ayon (207-85, college: San Jose St.) fired a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners. The former international point guard Sergio Llull (190-87) chipped in 18 points and 4 assists. Lithuanian Renaldas Seibutis (196-85) produced 19 points and Nigerian-American swingman Stan Okoye (198-91, college: VMI) added 18 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Despite that victory Real Madrid went down to third position due to points difference. Zaragoza at the other side dropped to the eighth place with eight games lost. Real Madrid are looking forward to face La ICL Manresa (#7) on the road in the next round. Zaragoza will play against Andorra and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
