Date: January 16, 2019
Eighth-ranked Corinthians (6-10) gave a tough game to first ranked Pinheiros (13-3) in Sao Paulo on Wednesday. The visitors managed to secure only three-point victory 80-77. However their fans expected much easier game. 29 personal fouls committed by Corinthians helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The former international Betinho Nardi-Duarte (195-88) stepped up and scored 24 points for the winners and the former international forward Marcus-Vinicius Toledo (201-86) chipped in 7 points and 13 rebounds. American-Peruvian point guard Kyle Fuller (185-92, college: Vanderbilt) responded with 32 points (was perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line !!!) and Uruguayan point guard Luciano Parodi (182-94) scored 9 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Corinthians' coach Bruno Savignani tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Pinheiros have an impressive series of six victories in a row. Despite that victory Pinheiros went down to second position due to points difference. Corinthians at the other side keeps the eighth place with ten games lost. They share the position with Minas and Sao Jose. Pinheiros are looking forward to face Botafogo F.R. (#7) in Rio de Janeiro in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Corinthians will have a break next round.
