WCBA top team - Vermilion Birds (31-2) managed to deliver another win on Wednesday. This time they beat ninth ranked Henan Phoenix (17-16) in Dongguan 81-68. Vermilion Birds forced 21 Henan Phoenix turnovers and outrebounded them 40-25 including 28 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Nigerian-American forward Nneka Ogwumike (189-90, college: Stanford) stepped up and scored 26 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals for the winners and international Sijing Huang (192-96) chipped in 18 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was American center Stefanie Dolson (196-92, college: Connecticut) with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and Yingli Huang scored 9 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Vermilion Birds have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain first place with 31-2 record. Henan Phoenix lost sixth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the ninth position with 16 games lost. They share it with Sichuan. Vermilion Birds are looking forward to face Golden Bulls (#15) in Yiwu in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Henan Phoenix will play at home against the league's second-placed Bayi Kylin (#2) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
