Regular Season Round 17: Flamengo - Sao Jose 96-83

Everything went according to plan in Rio de Janeiro where fifth ranked Flamengo (12-4) beat 8th ranked Sao Jose (6-10) 96-83 on Friday. Flamengo made 26-of-29 free shots (89.7 percent) during the game. Flamengo outrebounded Sao Jose 32-16 including 22 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Olivinha Rodriguez (203-83) who scored 22 points and 8 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). The former international Marquinhos Vieira (207-84) chipped in 24 points (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). Four Flamengo players scored in double figures. Argentinian point guard Fabian Sahdi (186-89) produced 13 points and 8 assists and Pedro Lima (191-87) added 18 points respectively for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Flamengo moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Paulistano. Loser Sao Jose keeps the eighth position with ten games lost. They share it with Corinthians and Minas. Flamengo will meet higher ranked Mogi (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sao Jose will have a break next round.
