Regular Season Round 18: HyPo - Kouvot 82-104

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked HyPo (14-4) in Hyvinkaa on Saturday night. Hosts were rolled over by fifth ranked Kouvottaret (9-8) 104-82. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of HyPo. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 16-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 104-82. Kouvottaret dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to HyPo's 40 and made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. They outrebounded HyPo 51-32 including 18 on the offensive glass. It was a good game for American guard Taeler Deer (165-96, college: Texas St.) who led her team to a victory with a triple-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 14 rebounds, 11 assists and 5 steals. Ugandan power forward Claire Lamunu (185-93, college: Vanguard) contributed with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 16 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) for the winners. American guard Jessica January (170-95, college: DePaul) replied with 15 points and 8 assists and the former international center Taru Tuukkanen (192-77, college: Xavier) added 20 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for HyPo. Four HyPo players scored in double figures. Kouvottaret moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Catz. HyPo at the other side still keeps top position with four games lost. Kouvottaret is looking forward to face Tapiolan Honka (#8) at home in the next round. HyPo will play against Helmi Basket (#9) in Helsinki and is hoping to win this game.
