Very expected game when 6th ranked Azuqueca (9-9) was smashed on the road by second ranked Real Murcia (13-5) 76-55 on Saturday. Real Murcia outrebounded Azuqueca 58-43 including 17 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Azuqueca's players. It was a good game for center Sergio Mendiola (207-96) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 15 rebounds and 4 blocks. British guard Patrick Whelan (196-96, college: William Jewell, agency: Duran International) contributed with 17 points (perfect from downtown making all five shots) for the winners. Real Murcia's coach Rafael Monclova felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Nigerian forward Jeffrey Solarin (193-92, college: Idaho St.) replied with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds and forward Carlos Apolinario (196-96) added 10 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Azuqueca. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Real Murcia maintains second position in Silver with 13-5 record behind leader Lucentum. Newly promoted Azuqueca keeps the sixth place with nine games lost. Real Murcia will face Villarrobledo (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day.
