There was a surprise result when twelfth ranked Arxil Pontevedra (4-10) edged on the road higher ranked Mataro Parc (6-8) 87-84 on Saturday. Arxil Pontevedra forced 34 Mataro Parc turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Point guard Carla Fernandez (168-89) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 8 rebounds. Forward Maria Lago (177-92) contributed with 12 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals for the winners. American guard Judy Jones (175-90, college: Grand Canyon) replied with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 18 rebounds, 4 assists and 8 steals and center Olga Ruano (191-88) added 27 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Mataro Parc. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Mataro Parc's coach Jordi Vizcaino rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Arxil Pontevedra moved-up to eleventh place in Group A, which they share with ADBA. Mataro Parc lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eighth position with eight games lost. Arxil Pontevedra will face league's leader Real Celta Vigo at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
