Regular Season Round 18: Gijon - Aquimisa LZ 75-79
Date: January 19, 2019
Not a big story in a game when 11th ranked Gijon (6-12) lost at home to fourth ranked Zamorano (11-7) 79-75 on Saturday. Zamorano made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. Strangely Gijon outrebounded Zamorano 43-30 including a 31-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Zamorano made 7 blocks. It was a good game for American-Italian point guard Anthony Libroia (180-94, college: Adelphi) who led his team to a victory with 23 points (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!). French point guard Sango Niang (183-93, college: Simon Fraser) contributed with 20 points for the winners. Canadian forward Shane Osayande (198-93, college: Saskatchewan, agency: Interperformances) replied with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds and the former international swingman Saul Blanco (196-85) added 15 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Gijon. Zamorano maintains fourth position in Silver with 11-7 record. Newly promoted Gijon keeps the eleventh place with 12 games lost. Zamorano will face Tormes (#12) in Salamanca in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gijon will play on the road against Cocinas.com in Logrono and hope to win that game.
