Very predictable result when second ranked Peli-Karhut (12-5) won against bottom-ranked Torpan Pojat (4-14) in Helsinki 93-77 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Peli-Karhut. Torpan Pojat managed to win fourth quarter 19-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Torpan Pojat 44-27 including a 33-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Peli-Karhut looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. American guard Brooke McCarty (163-95, college: Texas) notched 25 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists to lead the effort and American-Cameroonian center Brittany Starling (183-94, college: USC Upstate, agency: ProDep Management) supported her with 25 points and 10 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). Even a double-double of 26 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists by American forward Ashli Payne (183-95, college: E.Washington, agency: Gamble Sports Management) did not help to save the game for Torpan Pojat. Her fellow American import forward Ladondra Johnson (178, college: Young Harris) added 15 points and 5 rebounds. Four Torpan Pojat players scored in double figures. Defending champion maintains second position with 12-5 record having just three points less than leader HyPo. Torpan Pojat lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom place with 14 games lost. Peli-Karhut will meet at home Catz Lappeenranta (#5) in the next round. Torpan Pojat will play against Espoo Team (#3) and hope to secure a win.
