A very interesting game took place in Pozega. It ended with only one-point home defeat of 11th ranked Plamen Pozega (1-12) to ninth ranked Podravac (3-10) 58-57 on Saturday evening. Plamen Pozega cut a 17-point halftime deficit to one at the end of the game. Podravac dominated on the defensive end, holding Plamen Pozega to just 7 points in second quarter. They held Plamen Pozega to an opponent 22.1 percent shooting from the field compared to 37.0 percent accuracy of the winners. Strangely Plamen Pozega outrebounded Podravac 51-38 including a 24-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Guard Valentina Simunic (175-98) nailed a double-double by scoring 25 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and center Viktorija Curic (185-1) accounted for 10 points and 8 rebounds. American forward Mariah-Cauhryn Smelser (188-93, college: Jackson St.) came up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 18 rebounds (made all of her seven free throws) and the other American import guard Brittney Dunbar (173-93, college: Weber St.) added 14 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 7 steals respectively for Plamen Pozega in the defeat. Four Plamen Pozega players scored in double figures. Podravac maintains ninth place with 3-10 record. Plamen Pozega lost their fourth game in a row. They dropped to the bottom position with 12 games lost. Podravac's next round opponent will be higher ranked Sibenik (#8) at home and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Plamen Pozega will play against Tresnjevka (#5) in Zagreb and hope to win that game.
