Regular Season Round 14: AEK - Peristeri GS 96-70
Date: January 20, 2019
We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when fourth ranked AEK (10-4) outplayed one of their biggest challengers Peristeri GS (10-4) in Athens 96-70 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 96-70. American-FYR Macedonian point guard Jordan Theodore (182-89, college: Seton Hall) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points and 4 assists. International Giannoulis Larentzakis (195-93, agency: Octagon Europe) contributed with 15 points for the winners. Five AEK players scored in double figures. Center Gaios Skordilis (207-87) replied with 15 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and American Steven Gray (196-89, college: Gonzaga, agency: Octagon Europe) added 12 points in the effort for Peristeri GS. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. AEK moved-up to third place, which they share with defeated Peristeri GS. AEK will face PAOK (#5) in Thessaloniki in the next round. Peristeri GS will play at home against Promitheas and hope to win that game.
