A very close game took place in Ashdod between Maccabi Ashdod and Hapoel Tel-Aviv. Ninth ranked Maccabi Ashdod (5-10) got a very close home victory over their close opponent Hapoel Tel-Aviv (5-11). Maccabi Ashdod managed to escape with a 3-point win 81-78 on Thursday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Hapoel Tel-Aviv. Maccabi Ashdod forced 20 Hapoel Tel-Aviv turnovers. American Mark Tollefsen (206-92, college: Arizona) fired 24 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. American-Mexican point guard Paul Stoll (180-85) chipped in 14 points and 4 assists. American guard Jerel McNeal (190-87, college: Marquette) produced 25 points and 4 assists and international Tomer Ginat (202-94) added 15 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Hapoel Tel-Aviv's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Maccabi Ashdod maintains ninth position with 5-10 record, which they share with Nahariya. Loser Hapoel Tel-Aviv dropped to the eleventh place with 11 games lost. Maccabi Ashdod will meet higher ranked Hapoel Jerusalem (#4) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Hapoel Tel-Aviv will play against Bnei Hasharon (#12) in Hod Hasharon and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
