Regular Season Round 16: Rubon - Brest 107-76

Rather expected game in Vitebsk where 7th ranked Brest (6-11) was crushed by fifth ranked Rubon (9-8) 107-76. The game was mostly controlled by Rubon. Brest was better in fourth quarter 22-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Brest's 44. They outrebounded Brest 51-31 including a 36-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Rubon players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Brest's players. It was a very good performance for the former international guard Maksim Shustov (188-86) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 assists. Center Pavel Bliznec (210-94) contributed with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. Four Rubon players scored in double figures. Rubon's coach Ruslan Baidakov felt very confident that he used entire bench saving starting five for next games. Guard Anton Shchurko (188-97) replied with 24 points and 6 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) and center Dmitriy Shved (196-98) added 7 points and 13 rebounds in the effort for Brest. Rubon moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Tsmoki II. Brest at the other side keeps the seventh position with 11 games lost. Rubon's next round opponent will be GOCOR-Sozh (#9) in Gomel where they are favorite. Brest will play on the road against Grodno-93 and hope to win that game.
