Eighteenth-ranked Gipuzkoa (3-15) gave a tough game to tenth ranked Zaragoza (9-9) in San Sebastian on Saturday. The visitors from Zaragoza managed to secure only five-point victory 78-73. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime then Gipuzkoa managed to tie the game at the end of regular time. However that was Zaragoza who were better in overtime eventually winning that period 13-8. The best player for the winners was the former international center Fran Vazquez (209-83) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Lithuanian Renaldas Seibutis (196-85) chipped in 13 points. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Garrett Nevels (188-92, college: Hawaii) who recorded 15 points and 6 rebounds and Ukrainian forward Vyacheslav Bobrov (203-92) added 8 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Four Gipuzkoa players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Zaragoza moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Andorra. Gipuzkoa lost ninth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 15 games lost. Zaragoza will meet at home Leche Rio Breogan (#13) in the next round. Gipuzkoa will play against Burgos (#14) and hope to secure a win.
