Regular Season Round 12: Beroe - Crvena Zvezda 70-53

There was a change at the WABA leadership position after last games. Round 12 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Serbian Crvena Zvezda (7-1). They were defeated by second ranked Bulgarian Beroe (8-1) 70-53 on Sunday night. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Crvena Zvezda. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Beroe. Crvena Zvezda managed to win third quarter 18-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Beroe dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Crvena Zvezda's 34. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Breanna Lewis (196-94, college: Kansas St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points and 19 rebounds and Montenegrin center Ana Pocek (190-93, agency: ProDep Management) who added 21 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals during the contest. Four Beroe players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Mina Djordjevic (186-99, agency: BeoBasket) with 17 points and 6 rebounds and center Milica Bojovic (189-98) scored 8 points and 10 rebounds. Beroe have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader. Defending Serbian champion Crvena Zvezda dropped to the second place with one game lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Beroe. Crvena Zvezda will play next round against Buducnost trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Beroe will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Montana 2003 on the road.
