Regular Season Round 17: Trefl - Spojnia 96-98

The most exciting game of round 17 in the EBL took place in Sopot. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 16th ranked Trefl (3-14) to fifteenth ranked Spojnia Stargard (4-13) 98-96 on Sunday evening. Spojnia Stargard shot 66.1 percent from the field. They shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 60.0 percentage. Spojnia Stargard looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The best player for the winners was Lithuanian power forward Norbertas Giga (208-95, college: Jacksonville St.) who scored 22 points and 5 rebounds. American guard Rod Camphor (191-92, college: SW Oklahoma St., agency: Mansfield and Associates) chipped in 14 points and 7 assists. American guard Ian Baker (185-93, college: N.Mexico St.) produced 21 points and Lithuanian point guard Ovidijus Varanauskas (188-91, agency: Players Group) added 17 points respectively for the hosts. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Trefl's coach Jukka Toijala rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Spojnia Stargard moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with AZS Koszalin and Miasto Szkla. Trefl lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 14 games lost. Spojnia Stargard is looking forward to face league's second-placed Twarde Pierniki in Torun in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Trefl will play on the road against Anwil (#4) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
