Tenth-ranked UU-Korihait (6-19) gave a tough game to first ranked Vilpas (22-4) in Uusikaupunki on Saturday. The visitors from Salo managed to secure only one-point victory 104-103. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests trailed by 1 point after three quarters before their 32-30 charge, which allowed them to win the game. 29 personal fouls committed by UU-Korihait helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for American forward Antonio Ballard (194-88, college: Miami, OH) who led his team to a victory scoring 27 points and 7 rebounds. Point guard Aatu Kivimaki (186-97) helped adding 14 points and 7 assists. Ballard is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. The best for the losing side was American forward Bryan Coleman (198-92, college: Wayne St., MI) with 22 points and the other American import swingman Chris Jenkins (201-94, college: Detroit Mercy) scored 13 points and 8 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Vilpas maintains first place with 22-4 record. UU-Korihait lost third consecutive game. They keep the tenth position with 19 games lost. Vilpas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. UU-Korihait will play at home against Helsinki Seagulls (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
