Regular Season Round 19: Estudio - Lanzarote 83-88

There was a small surprise when eleventh ranked Lanzarote (8-10) beat 9th ranked Estudio (7-9) in Madrid 88-83 on Saturday. It was a very good performance for American forward Aziz Leeks (203-95, college: Idaho Coll.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points and 15 rebounds. Forward Javier Herreros (198-94) contributed with 14 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Leeks is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Forward Gabriel Rodriguez (199-90) answered with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Ignacio Iriarte (175-94) added 15 points and 5 assists in the effort for Estudio. Five Lanzarote and four Estudio players scored in double figures. Estudio's coach Borja Gonzalez tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Lanzarote moved-up to ninth place in Group B, which they share with Zentro Basket. Loser Estudio dropped to the eleventh position with nine games lost. Lanzarote will face Aridane (#13) in Los Llanos in the next round. Estudio's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Madrid to the arena Real Madrid II.
